We offer three different current transformers (CTs) for sensing current. The solid core CTs are suitable for most installations where the maximum current does not exceed 200 amps and the power can be disconnected to allow the wire carrying the load to be passed through the hole in the center of the CT.
Our CTs are different than most other CTs. Many third party CTs that match the turns ration and burden do not handle phase angles properly causing the meter to fail to meter the accuracy standards of ANSI C12.1(2001). Complete this section even if you want to order a spare meter without CTs so the meter will be calibrated to match the CTs that will be used.
The split core CTs nearly double the cost of most of our meters, but may be needed. We offer two different split core CTs. One has an opening diameter of about one inch and the other has an opening of 2 1/4 inches. One side of these CTs can be removed to allow it to be installed without removing power from the system being measured. Caution: The wires coming out of the CT can deliver a fatal shock if current is flowing through the wire going through the CT.
Multiple wires of the same phase can be put through a CT. If you have more wires than will fit, or if they are not all in the same location, parallel CTs can be installed.
